Being Kind to Yourself & Others

Time: Sundays 11.00 am – 12.30 pm

Cost: $12 per class – No charge for Members (Level 1 Membership only $50/month – see Centre Membership for more information).

Weekly meditation classes offer practical methods to improve the quality of our lives through meditation and especially learning new ways of thinking. You can learn how to develop and improve your experience of happiness and inner peace. No previous experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome!

All the weekly classes are currently offered online.

Booking will stay open until 30 minutes after the start of the course. You will receive a zoom link in the confirmation email to join the live-streamed class. Please email registration@meditateinToronto.com if any questions or difficulties.

FAQs

Each of the weekly meditation classes begins with a guided breathing meditation to settle the mind, brief prayers, a talk and then a second guided meditation on the class topic. Class topics can be found in each weekly class description.
No. All our weekly meditation classes are open to everyone regardless of spiritual orientation.
No. Attend as many as you wish. Each class is self-contained, so you do not need to attend the previous class or classes in order to follow the class you wish to attend.
Each weekly class is $12 for non-members. There is no charge for members – KMCC membership starts at $50/month (click here).
Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab is the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada and the NKT National Spiritual Director for Canada.

A retired General Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT-IKBU), he has trained closely with Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over thirty-five years and holds the lineages of his blessings in his heart.

He is a very inspiring example of a pure practitioner of modern Kadampa Buddhism who relies sincerely upon his Spiritual Guide in all his actions.

Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab is an internationally renowned teacher and English Buddhist monk who is greatly admired throughout the world for his powerful teachings, his wisdom, as well as his pure example of humility and loving-kindness.

He is also well-known for his deep understanding of Buddha’s teachings and his ability to convey their profound meaning in a very clear and accessible way.

Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab teaches the Tuesday Evening class as well as regular weekend courses and events.

He also teaches the Foundation Program and Teacher Training Program.

Many of our problems arise from being too hard on ourselves and others; learn ways to think differently! In this series of classes, we’ll discover how to stop obsessing about being perfect and how to be gentle with ourselves and others instead.

May 16 – Developing Pure Wishing Love: How can pure love be cultivated in our heart? 1) Discovering how this form of love and great compassion are the same mind ~ meditation on the breath. 2) Learning how to meditate on wishing love – meditation on wishing love

May 23 – Equalizing Self and others: Do we have the wisdom to grow this mind? 1) Discovering the benefits of equalizing self and others ~ meditation on the breath. 2) From affectionate love to Equalizing self and others – meditation on Equalizing self and others

June 6 – The Problems of the Selfish Mind: Can we see the dangers for ourself and others? 1) Discovering how the source of all suffering is self-cherishing (1) ~ meditation on the breath. 2) Discovering how the source of all suffering is self-cherishing (2) ~ meditation on disadvantages of this mind and the determination to stop it

June 27 – The Holy Secret: Transforming our mind through wisdom. 1) Exchanging self with others explained – why is this practice called the holy secret? ~ meditation on the breath. 2) How to exchange self with others ~ meditation on exchanging self with others

July 4 – Taking Away Suffering (1): Putting our compassion into practice first for ourself. 1) Discover the benefits of this meditation and the background information needed ~ meditation on the breath. 2) Taking away our own suffering ~ meditation on taking our own suffering

July 11 – Giving Pure Happiness (1): The generous pure heart of practical love. 1) Discover the benefits of giving love ~ meditation on the breath. 2) Giving love – the practice of giving our own happiness ~ meditation on transforming our body into a wishfulfilling jewel

July 18 – Taking Away Suffering (2): Now putting our compassion into practice for the benefit of others. 1) Discover the benefits of taking/background info on compassion ~ meditation on the breath. 2) What is correct imagination and why it works? ~ meditation on taking others’ suffering

July 25 – Giving Pure Happiness (2): How to create a pure world filled with pure beings. 1) Introduction to the benefits of giving love ~ meditation on the breath. 2) Discover the practice of giving love ~ meditation on giving love
