Urban Retreats

What is a Retreat? During a retreat we reduce our normal daily activities and concentrate for a period of time on developing our peaceful minds and spiritual qualities – finding happiness from within. Everyone is welcome to enjoy these special opportunities.

Online Attendance: You will need an email address and a phone, laptop, tablet or computer on which to watch the class online. By accessing this service, you agree not to share the link, not to watch with others who have not bought the ticket, and not to record any part of the audio or video class. Booking will stay open until 30 minutes after the start of the class. You will receive a link by email to join the live-streamed class. Please email registration@kadampa.ca if any questions or difficulties.

In Person Attendance: Please register choosing the ‘in person’ option in the form below. In advance of your arrival, you must complete the below COVID-19 Active Screening Form prior to entering the Temple or do so immediately when you arrive. All data is collected as a requirement to our local Toronto Public Health Department and will be kept for 30 days and then deleted.  Please adhere to all protocols given by local bylaws while you are at the temple such as but not limited to wearing a mask indoors, washing your hands or using hand sanitizer when you arrive/leave and as necessary and maintain minimum of 2 m social distance from anyone not in your household at all times. In this busy modern world many people are now turning to meditation. The practice of meditation is to become deeply familiar with positive states of mind that are conducive to happiness.  If you’ve been thinking of trying meditation or wish to reboot your practice of meditation, this course is perfect for you!  In this half-day course, we will explore together the basic meditation techniques that will allow us to experience inner peace.  In particular, we will discover how to avoid the 2 major obstacles to successful meditations: mental wandering and mental sinking.

At present our mind is tormented by grasping of many forms – grasping at possessions, friends, feelings, ideas, and even our sense of who we are. All our negativity and the suffering to which it gives rise comes from this grasping, especially our self-grasping. Buddha taught simple methods to reduce and eventually abandon all our grasping, and in this way become free from suffering.
