Tuesday Drop-in Class ~ Essential Insights Into The Buddha of Compassion Practice

Essential Insights Into The Buddha of Compassion Practice

Tuesday Drop-in classes with Resident Teacher Gen Kelsang Chodor

Oct 8 | Oct 15 | Oct 22

In this three-week course, we will explore the key meditations from the Buddha of Compassion practice. Avalokiteshvara, known as the Buddha of Compassion, is an enlightened being who embodies the compassion of all the Buddhas. By connecting with him, we can awaken our own compassionate heart.

The meditation practices we’ll learn can help us in very practical ways. We all face challenges in life, such as dealing with anger, desire or confusion. These meditations will teach us how to calm our minds and gain control over these emotions, allowi us to handle our daily problems more effectively.

But this isn’t just about improving our own lives. Once we develop the ability to manage our emotions and think clearly, we can begin to guide and help others too. By sharing our inner peace and good heart, we can help people around the world discover a spiritual path that leads to a deeper understanding of life’s true purpose. In this way, we don’t just help ourselves – we contribute to the happiness and well-being of others as well.

  • Each class is self-contained, so you are welcome to join at any point.

Our classes begin with a brief introduction, followed by an initial guided meditation to settle the mind and create a feeling of inner peace. This is followed by a talk on an aspect of meditation practice related to the series topic, and concludes with a guided meditation related to the talk.

After each class, we invite you to join us in our community room for complimentary refreshments and an opportunity to ask questions.

You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend, and no previous experience with meditation is required.

    Everybody is welcome!

  • These classes are held in the peaceful, spacious and comfortable meditation room at Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada. We also have many books and other meditation materials available at our Temple shop which can help you deepen your understanding of the meditation experience through further study.

  • Parking spaces are limited in the area. For this reason, it is easier to come by public transport if this is an option for you.

It is possible to find parking in the nearby streets. However, it is generally not possible to park for more than 3 hours during the day. It is necessary to have a permit in order to park overnight in the area.

Temporary day parking spots nearby: Some options are available for temporary day parking spots nearby, for example with the following companies: Green P Parking, Spot Hero.

Temporary on-street permit parking in Toronto: Provided space is available, a temporary parking permit may be purchased by residents and their guests to park a motor vehicle on a street designated under the permit parking program of the city of Toronto. This program generally services those residential areas where driveways are not common. If you choose this option, please avoid parking on Crawford St. if possible. You may get a ticket as it is complaint driven and the residents have limited space for their own street parking on Crawford St.
